Change of Ownership
A shipowner may at any time sell a Tuvalu flagged ship to another entity. The new owner can re-register the ship with the Tuvalu Ship Registry provided that the ship's statutory certification continues to be under one of the authorized Classification Societies.

Incentives in the form of attractive fees and taxes will be given to encourage the new shipowner to maintain the ship under the Tuvalu Flag.

Documents Required:
  • Application Form R1
  • Declaration of Ownership Form R2
  • Bill of Sale (BOS) or Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)
  • Copy of Applicant's passport
  • Proof of 3rd party liability insurance coverage
Registrar confirms that the application is in order and upon receipt of payment, the ship will be re-issued the following:
  • Provisional Certificate of Registry
  • Provisional Minimum Safe Manning Certificate (as required)
  • Provisional Ship Station Licence (as required)
  • Carving & Marking Note (as required)
Permanent Registration will be granted once the following original documents are submitted:
  • Application Form R1
  • Declaration of Ownership Form R2
  • Bill of Sale (BOS) - will be returned to the owner after sighting by the Registrar
  • Carving & Marking Note duly endorsed (as required)
Upon confirming that all of the above documentation is in order, the Registrar will issue the following:
  • Permanent Certificate of Registry
  • Permanent Minimum Safe Manning Certificate (as required)
  • Permanent Ship Station Licence (as required)
