Bareboat Charter-In Registration
With the consent of the vessel's underlying registry, a vessel may perform a bareboat charter registration under the Tuvalu Flag. During this time, the vessel enjoys the full privileges of a Tuvalu vessel, and has to conform to all rules and regulations stipulated in the Tuvalu Merchant Shipping Act. Statutory certification must be conducted by one of Tuvalu Ship Registry's recognised classification societies.

The duration of the Bareboat Charter Registration shall be given for a two year period, but in no case exceeding the duration of the Bareboat Charter Agreement, or the validity of the vessel's underlying registry, whichever comes first.

Upon expiry of the Bareboat Charter Registration, the vessel may apply to be registered again under the same conditions by providig the necessary documents such as the new Bareboat Charter Agreement.

Provisional Status

Copy of Documents for submission:
  • Application Form R3
  • Bareboat Charter Agreement
  • Letter of Consent from underlying Registry
  • Written Consent from the Owner as registered in the underlying Registry
  • The Written Consent of the registered Mortgagee(s) if any
  • Bareboat Charterer's Certificate of Incorporation
  • Bareboat Charterer's Certificate of Good Standing (Not required for Tuvalu Offshore Company)
  • Memorandum and Articles of Association showing Bareboat Charterer's registered address
  • Applicant’s Passport
  • Proof of 3rd party liability insurance coverage e.g. P&I
Copy of Certificates for submission:
  • Existing Certificate of Registry
  • Existing International Tonnage Certificate
  • Existing SOLAS Certificates (where applicable)
  • Existing MARPOL Certificates (where applicable)
  • Existing Load Line Certificate
  • Existing Continuous Synopsis Record (CSR) File starting from Document No.1 (where applicable)
If the application is in order, the vessel will be issued:
  • Provisional Certificate of Registry (Bareboat Charter)
  • Provisional Minimum Safe Manning Certificate (as required)
  • Provisional Ship Station Licence (as required)
  • Subsequent Continuous Synopsis Record Document (as required)
Provisional registration is valid for 6 months and may be extended upon application up to a maximum of another 6 months if the vessel is not ready to be converted to Permanent registration. Compliance with LRIT, Bunker Convention Certificate, Civil Liability Certificate is mandatory for the vessels that are applicable.

Permanent Status

Original Documents for submission:
  • Application Form R3
  • Original or Certified True Copy of Bareboat Charter Agreement
  • Letter of Consent from underlying registry
  • Written Consent from the Owner as registered in the underlying registry
  • Written Consent from the registered Mortgagee(s) if any
If the submission of the original documents are in order, the vessel will be issued:
  • Permanent Certificate of Registry (Bareboat Charter)
  • Permanent Minimum Safe Manning Certificate (as required)
  • Permanent Ship Station Licence (as required)
