With the consent of the ship's current flag state, ships may be bareboat charter registered under the Tuvalu Flag. During this time, the ship enjoys the full privileges of a Tuvalu Ship and has to conform to all rules and regulations under the Tuvalu Merchant Shipping Act. Statutory certification must be conducted by one of Tuvalu Ship Registry's authorized Classification Societies.
Documents Required:
- Application Form R3
- Bareboat Charter Agreement
- Letter of Consent for Bareboat Charter Out from underlying Registry
- The Written Consent of the Registered Owner as entered in the underlying Registry
- The Written Consent of the Registered Mortgagee(s) if any
- Copy of Applicant’s Passport
- Proof of 3rd party liability insurance
Certificates Required:
- Existing Certificate of Registry
- Existing International Tonnage Certificate
- Existing MARPOL Certificates where applicable
- Existing Load Line Certificate
Registrar confirms that the application is in order and upon receipt of payment, the ship will be issued the following:
- Provisional Certificate of Registry (Bareboat Charter)
- Provisional Minimum Safe Manning Certificate (as required)
- Provisional Ship Station Licence (as required)
- Carving & Marking Note (as required)
The provisional registration is valid for 6 months and may be extended upon application up to a maximum of one year.
Transfer to permanent status will require submission of the following original documents:
- Application Form R3
- Certified Copy of Bareboat Charter Agreement
- Letter of Consent for Bareboat Charter Out from underlying Registry
- Written Consent of the Registered Owner as entered in the underlying Registry
- Written Consent of the Registered Mortgagee(s) if any
- Carving and Marking Note (duly endorsed)
Upon confirming that all of the above documentation is in order, the Registrar will issue the following:
- Permanent Certificate of Registry (Bareboat Charter)
- Permanent Minimum Safe Manning Certificate (as required)
- Permanent Ship Station Licence (as required)
